Membership

Welcome Aboard!

The NWV is a 501(c)3 educational organization dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the art and craft of model railroading.   Memberships are available to anyone* interested in trains.

Newcomers to the hobby are welcome to join and learn from the other NWV members.  Those with more modeling experience are welcome to join and share their  knowledge.

Consider either an individual membership or an adult/minor membership and enjoy model railroading with a child or grandchild.

A modest joining fee of $25 with your application and monthly dues of  $20* allow you access to a 30’ x 30’ train layout, the opportunity to  participate in the construction and operation of a modern model  railroad, and the support of other members to increase your knowledge of the hobby.

*Classes of memberships available:

  • A. Regular Member ‐ Eligible to participate in all association meetings and activities, with full voting rights. Dues for regular members are  $20/month.
  • B. Youth Member – a person who is 12 to 18 years old who lives in the household of a regular member and must be accompanied by the regular member at all times while at NWV activities and functions. There are no dues for a youth member and they have no voting rights.
  • C. Student Member – a person who is a full time student. Such members have the same NWV rights and privileges as regular members. The dues for student members are $10 per month.
  • D. Distant Member ‐ available to persons with a principle place of residence more than 50 miles from the NWV in Essex Junction and is eligible to participate in all association educational meetings and activities.  A Distant member has full voting rights. Dues for associate members are  $10/month.
  • E.   Inactive Member – any member in good standing who elects to suspend membership for a period of time without incurring additional dues obligations and who will not participate in the NWV as a member. Such a member may elect at any time in the future to resume membership and participate as an NWV member.     
  • F. Honorary Member‐ conferred on worthy persons as voted upon by a majority of the regular members at the association’s annual meeting.  An honorary member is eligible to participate in all association educational meetings and activities but shall not have voting rights nor be assessed any association dues.

Member Policies

The NWV maintains a permanent model railroad layout and the equipment to support it at their location in Essex Junction. Therefore, the Board of Directors has established policies for members’ use of these facilities.
