About The NWVOur mission is to preserve and teach the art and craft of model railroading to the next generation.
The NWV was formed on January 1, 2008 by model railroaders with the purpose and goal of preserving and teaching the art and craft of model railroading. For 30 years various groups of modelers have been meeting and creating a model railroad empire in Colchester and then Essex Junction. Over the past five years they have come to the realization that if someone does not take action the hobby of model railroading will continue to decline in popularity. The corporation, NWV Model Railroad Association, Inc. was formed and an application for federal 501(c)(3) - tax exempt educational organization - was submitted in March 2008. Tax exempt status was granted in June and the roughly 20 members of the NWV began the serious task of organizing their experience and promoting the hobby.
We invite you to spend some time looking around our site, we are adding new features as quickly as they can be completed. Classes in various aspects of the hobby are offered in an ongoing program designed to give someone with no model railroad experience the confidence to begin their own railroad or participate in club activities.
Current members of the NWV are both novice and experienced model railroaders, including men, women, and parent & youth members. Some members are retired, some work full time, we vary widely in our educational backgrounds and daily occupations but share a common goal, we love model railroading.
Membership in the NWV is always open, we welcome interested parties regardless of age, gender or modeling experience to join in our endeavors. You can click here to read by-laws of the NWV and here to complete a membership application. Meetings are every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm at our classroom and layout facility in the Pinewood Plaza Center on River Road in Essex Junction. A map and directions are available here.
The Board of the NWV is pleased to announce that lease negotiations have been completed and we have signed a lease for three years in our current space. The members, guests and visitors will begin construction of a new NWV with approximate dimensions of 30' x 30' and over 200 feet of mainline track. A basic track plan is available here.
Visitors are always welcome, but be prepared to join in. You will probably find yourself holding a paintbrush, screwdriver, or train controller before you know what happened.
