NWV at the Champlain Valley Fair
August 23 – September 1, 2008
Photos from the event
The NWV has been invited by the Champlain Valley Fair to demonstrate the art and skill of model railroading for the entire 10 days of the fair.
We will be located in the Expo North Building which is open from 10am to 10pm daily.
During the Fair we will set up and operate our 8' x 32' HO scale module which has rural Vermont farm scenes, a quarry, a small town and large railroad yard.
In addition we will be demonstrating the building of a 4' x 8' HO scale layout using modern foam landscaping and base materials. This layout will be fully constructed from a boxed kit and assembled during the 10 days of the fair. It will be fully operational including a town center, a locomotive, rolling stock and control system. The total retail value of the layout components is in excess of $1,200.
Also on display will be sections of the NWV permanent layout which have been removed from our former location and are awaiting installation in our new home.
Operation Lifesaver will also appear as a part of our educational mission and present facts about railroad safety and the proper method of dealing with trains in the real world.
One lucky fairgoer will take the completed 4 x 8 layout home with them at the conclusion of the fair as we will be selling raffle tickets for $5 each. If needed, a NWV team will deliver the completed railroad within 50 miles of Essex Junction to the lucky winner. Unfortunately, we cannot deliver to Canada because of the added complication of bringing the layout over the border, as well as the distance required.
Members of the NWV will be available at all times to discuss model railroading and answer questions regarding model railroad construction and operation. Interested people of all skill levels from beginner to experienced modeler may fill out a membership application at that time and join us as we continue the legacy of model railroading into the next generation.
